Utilizing a Multi-Modal Learning Style to Treat Social Challenges

Social Skills Groups

The social skills group at Journey to Psychological Wellness, LLC is designed for children, adolescents or adults who have difficulty socializing with others. These children may or may not be diagnosed with Social Anxiety, ADHD and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Research demonstrates that individuals who have difficulty with recognizing social cues learn better when they visually see the skill being demonstrated. In addition, each individual has their own unique learning style. Therefore,  a multi-modal learning style is utilized that incorporates having the group members hear about the skills (auditory), watch video clips that demonstrate the skills (visual) and practice the skills via the use of role plays (kinesthetic).

Dr. Goodwin is the leader for the children and adolescent group. An objective measure is used to assess each child and adolescent's social needs and strengths prior to the group initiating. The skills selected and taught will focus on each group member's needs.

Mr. Carsto is the leader for the adult group. He will utilize a program that uses videos and worksheets to assist the members with learning the skills. The members will practice the skills via use of role plays and also will focus on sharing experiences with one another.
